WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) scored the game-winning goal in a victory over Bloomsburg (7-4-0, 6-4-0) for the second time this season as her tally in the eighth minute started the offense and helped lead the 15th-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (8-1-1, 7-1-1) to a 3-0 victory over Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon.
Bloomsburg entered play on a five-match winning streak but fell behind early and trailed by two at the half as West Chester picked up its third straight win with another 3-0 shutout over the Huskies.
Jordan Nguyen (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) and Katie Dougherty (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West) added goals in the 36th and 64th minutes to help guide the Golden Rams to victory.
Ryder's goal came in the eighth minute on a long-range shot as the senior sent the ball in from well outside the box off a pass from
Kara Slavin (Abington, Pa./Abington) to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead.
After withstanding a 20-minute offensive surge by the Huskies, which included multiple corners, West Chester took a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute when Nguyen scored off an assist from Ryder, marking the fifth time in the last six games in which the sophomore has found the back of the net for the Golden Rams.
Despite trailing 4-2 in corners, West Chester ended the first half with a 10-7 lead in shots and a 6-3 lead in shots on goal as the Golden Rams took a two-goal lead into the halftime break.
Dougherty added a goal of her own in the 64th minute, rising above the crowd in the box for a header off a
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) corner, as Barber picked up her fourth assist in the last two games.
West Chester finished the match with a 21-16 lead in shots and an 11-8 lead in corners, although shots on goal were even at 8-8.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made nine stops in the shutout victory, including five in the second half to silence the Husky offense.
