WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (8-10, 1-4) returned to action on Saturday in Hollinger Field House against Kutztown (16-3, 4-1) as the Golden Rams looked to bounce back from a five-set loss to Lock Haven on Friday night. West Chester fell behind early and battled throughout the afternoon but fell to Kutztown by a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) final.
Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) led West Chester in kills with nine, while also contributing on three blocks, which was second best on the team, trailing only
Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkey/Terakki) and her four. Koksal also led the Golden Rams in assists (24) and aces (4).
Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) led West Chester in digs with 12 and chipped in eight kills of her own.
West Chester found itself down 2-0 in the match early after an early run by Kutztown lifted the Golden Bears to a 25-17 first-set victory to open the match and a similar run in the the second set guided the Golden Bears to the 25-21 victory.
The Golden Rams responded in the third set and held a 21-19 lead late after a block by Kwitchoff and Koksal but Kutztown won six of the final seven points, including a 3-0 run late to finish off a 25-22 third-set victory.
West Chester hit .180 (37-17-111) in the loss, including a .222 (13-5-36) effort in the third-set, which was the high-water mark for the Golden Rams in the loss.
