Bloomsburg Tops West Chester Football in OT, 22-15

BLOOMSBURG, PA – Much like the Golden Rams did one year ago in West Chester, host Bloomsburg University returned the favor with a 22-15 overtime victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (4-5, 1-4 PSAC East) dropped its second straight contest while Bloomsburg (7-2, 4-1) moved into a tie for second place in the Eastern Division standings. Last year, it was West Chester, which prevailed, 46-44, in triple overtime at Farrell Stadium. It also marked the third time in the last four years that these two division rivals needed overtime to decide the outcome. In all three contests, the home team came out victorious.

The game did not look like it was going to take overtime when Bloomsburg quarterback Zayd Etheridge hit Xavier Diaz on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 left in the game. Etheridge then connected with Justin Wolfe on the two-point conversion to put the Huskies in front, 15-8.

However, West Chester quarterback Colin O'Sullivan (Fort Washington, Pa. / Upper Darby) engineered a 6-play, 75-yard scoring drive, going 5-for-6 on the march that culminated in a 38-yard TD strike to his childhood pee-wee football teammate Dylan McKenzie (Oreland, Pa. / Springfield 9MONTCO)) with :15 to play.

West Chester chose to kick the extra point and go to overtime – so everyone thought. But, Bloomsburg fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, and West Chester recovered on the Huskies' 40-yard line. Suddenly, the Golden Rams had the ball and eight seconds, with one timeout remaining, to play with. However, Tommy Pajic's (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) 55-yard field goal attempt as time expired fell short.

Wolfe ran into the end zone from three yards out on the seventh play of the Huskies' first overtime possession to put the hosts on top. The Golden Rams could not answer on their OT possession when a 4th-down pass into the end zone was incomplete.

Pajic, who nailed a pair of field goals earlier in the contest, kicked a 22-yarder in the third quarter that put West Chester on top, 8-7. His 26-yarder early in the second quarter put the Golden Rams on the board originally, making it a 7-3 contest.

West Chester added two points when a bad snap from Bloomsburg's 10-yard line skipped through the legs of Etheridge and rolled into the end zone. Etheridge fell on the ball for a safety.

Etheridge's 23-yard TD pass to Nick Ryan staked the home team to a 7-0 lead midway through the opening quarter.

The Golden Rams threw for 318 yards and held the ball for 36 minutes, 59 seconds, but their three red-zone trips in the game produced only two field goals while one possession ended on downs. O'Sullivan completed 27 of 41 passes with one touchdown and did not throw an interception on the afternoon.

Blake Thomas (Secaucus, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) led the Golden Rams with 101 receiving yards on four catches. McKenzie, O'Sullivan's favorite target, caught eight passes for 97 yards and the tying touchdown. Reese Clark (Philadelphia, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) added eight receptions for 88 yards.

The Golden Rams finished with 397 yards of total offense, to the Huskies' 245. Defensively, the Golden Rams had two sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and a safety, and limited Bloomsburg to 67 rushing yards. O'Sullivan was only sacked once – in overtime. It was just the seventh sack on the season surrendered by the Golden Rams.

Jamir Reyes (Philadelphia, Pa. / Imhotep Charter), Seamus McCain (Philadelphia, Pa. / Penn Charter) and Miles Goodwin (Oreland, PA Springfield Twp.) each recorded six tackles to lead West Chester's defensive effort. Bryan Anderson (Woodbridge, N.J. / Woodbridge) intercepted a pass and Solo Bambara (Philadelphia, Pa. / Sts. Neuman & Goretti) forced a fumble.

West Chester returns home next weekend for its final home game of 2026 against Shippensburg. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on what will be the Golden Rams' Senior Day as well as Military Appreciation Day.
