Women's Volleyball Falls to Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V.- The West Chester University women's volleyball team (8-11, 1-5) returned to action on Tuesday night in West Virginia for a PSAC East battle against Shepherd (15-2, 5-2). West Chester battled throughout the night and took the second set past 25 points but fell to the Rams 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-20).

CeCe Isenberg (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) tied for the team lead in kills with nine each, while Addison Hertzog (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) led the team in assists with 17, along with 16 from Bria Stepp (Cranberry Twp, Pa./Seneca Valley).  Hailey Atkins (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) led West Chester in aces with three and tied for the team lead in digs with nine, matching Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) in this category.

West Chester got out to an early lead in each of the first two sets, holding a 10-6 lead in the first after a Macey Baum (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) ace and an even stronger 10-4 lead in the second set after Kwitchoff picked up one of her nine kills on the night, following a block moments earlier, which had given West Chester a 9-3 lead. Unfortunately for the Golden Rams, Shepherd stormed back in both sets, closing the first set on a 6-2 run to take it by a 25-21 final before finishing the second set on a 14-10 run to capture it by a 29-27 final and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

West Chester held a slim 9-6 lead in the third set before the Rams went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-11 lead en route to a 25-20 third-set victory to close out the match.

West Chester hit .275 (46-16-109) in the loss, including a .370 (12-2-27) effort in the first set, while Shepherd hit .350 (44-8-103), including a .500 (16-2-28) effort in the first-set win.

Amya Davis and Ada McCoy led Shepherd, and all players in kills with 11 each.

West Chester returns to action at home on Saturday afternoon against Lackawanna, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday is also Senior Day in West Chester, and fans are encouraged to arrive early, with Senior Day ceremonies scheduled prior to the match.
