Women's Basketball Races Past Millersville, 77-41

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Marianna Papazoglou (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including four makes from beyond the arc to help lead the West Chester University women's basketball team (11-15, 7-13) to a dominant 77-41 victory over Millersville (12-15, 8-13) on Wednesday night.

West Chester never trailed and led by as many as 40 with under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter in a wire-to-wire victory, which saw the Golden Rams go just 14 seconds without the lead.

Papazoglou was one of three Golden Rams in double figures as Lena Stein (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scored 16 on a team-best 8-of-13 shooting, with nine rebounds and five steals, while Kimi Sayson (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) added 11 of her own on 5-of-9 shooting. Stein led the team in rebounding and steals, while Erin Daley (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) led the team in assists with five to go along with eight points and eight rebounds.

West Chester shot 47.6 % (30-of-63) from the field, shooting north of 50 % in each of the first three quarters, as the team turned in its best shooting effort since a January 21 win over Shepherd, when the team shot 53.7 %. West Chester was 5-for-16 (31.3 %) from beyond the arc, and also connected on 12-of-14 (85.7 %) at the free throw line.

West Chester jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first three minutes of the game with four quick points from Stein, which came as part of a 19-5 run to end the quarter, which allowed West Chester to carry a 27-9 lead into the second. West Chester was 8-for-11 from the field during this run and 11-for-18 (61.1 %) for the quarter to take a commanding lead into the second.

West Chester continued to dominate the first half in the second quarter as the Golden Rams outscored the Marauders 21-7 on 57.1 % (8-of-14) shooting from the field, while Millersville made just one field goal to carry a commanding 48-16 lead into the halftime break.

Stein and Papazoglou led all scorers in the first half with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Bella Mazur and Sayson added seven points each.

West Chester shot 59.4 % (19-of-32) from the field in the first half, including a 3-for-6 effort from beyond the arc, while also going 7-for-9 (77.8 %) at the line.
Millersville was held to just 19.0 % (4-of-21) shooting from the field, including a 1-for-7  (14.3 %) effort from beyond the arc, while also going 7-for-10 (70.0 %) at the line.

After scoring its most first-half points all season, West Chester continued to pour it on in the third, outscoring the Marauders 18-10 on 50.0 % (8-of-16) shooting to carry a 40-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Millersville outscored West Chester for the first time on Wednesday night in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Golden Rams 15-11 as the visitors shot just 20.0 % (3-for-15) from the field but it had little impact as West Chester cruised to the 77-41 victory on Wednesday night.

Millersville shot 22.2 % (12-of-54) from the field in the loss, including a 2-for-17 (11.8 %) effort from three-point range, while also going 15-for-22 (68.2 %) at the free throw line.

Danielle Ranieli led Millersville in scoring with 11 points, although seven of those 11 came at the charity stripe.

West Chester finished the game with a 46-29 rebounding advantage, including a 13-11 edge on the offensive glass, which led to a 13-6 edge in second-chance points and a 46-20 lead in points in the paint. West Chester also won the turnover battle (16-13) and finished the game with a 22-12 lead in points off turnovers and a 9-8 lead in fast break points.

Despite tonight's dominant victory, West Chester will play its final game of the 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Golden Rams were officially eliminated from PSAC Tournament contention earlier in the day on Wednesday by virtue of other results.

The season finale against East Stroudsburg will begin at 1 p.m. in Hollinger Field House. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as Senior Day ceremonies will precede the game on Saturday afternoon.
