Women's Track and Field Eighth After Day One at PSAC Indoor Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The West Chester University women's track and field squad returned to action on Saturday afternoon for the first day of the PSAC Indoor Championships. After day one, West Chester is tied for eighth in the team standings with Edinboro with 13 points and is just 3.5 points behind seventh-place Kutztown.

Kaylie Groff (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) and Hannah LaFave (Spring Brook Township, Pa./North Pocono) both started the scoring for West Chester in the pole vault as they tied for seventh with marks of 11 feet 5 ¾ inches (3.50 meters), earning 1.5 points each.

West Chester added to its opening day title in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) with a seventh-place finish in 12 minutes and 24.97 seconds for two more points.

Jessalyn Welsh (Enola, Pa./East Pennsbury) led West Chester in the 5K with a fourth-place finish in 18:00.58 for five points, while Kristina Tapia (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) took sixth with a time of 18:07.31 for three points of her own.

In prelim action, Katja Larsen (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) punched her ticket to the Sunday finals in the 400 with a seventh-place finish in 25.84 seconds, while also qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter dash alongside Geneveive McDonald (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) as the duo placed fifth and seventh in 7.82 and 7.90 seconds, respectively.

Abigail Hanneman (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) also earned a spot in the Sunday finals in the 400 with a seventh-place finish in 59.66 seconds.
