ORLANDO, FLA – West Chester won five of the six singles matches to claim a 5-2 victory over Hampden-Sydney College Tuesday afternoon in a non-league men's tennis match in the Sunshine State.
Thomaz Joly (Indaiatuba, Brazil) was the deciding match at second singles as he took a 7-5, 6-1 win for the fourth point of the match.
Anthony Abbott (New York, N.Y./Grand View Prep) won a third-set tie-breaker at fourth singles for an exciting victory after winning the first set and dropping the second.
Juan Pablo Beirana Guzman (Morelia, Mexico) was also a tie-breaker winner at first singles, rallying to take the second set, after dropping the first, and then claiming a 10-3 win in the tie-breaker.
Alessandro Melotti (Hollywood, Fla./NSU University School) won at third singles, 6-3, 6-1, while
Nick Styliades (Moorestown, N.J/Moorestown) won at sixth singles, 6-2, 7-5.
West Chester will be back in action again tomorrow down south on its Spring Break trip against Washington College (Md.) at 6 p.m. in Orlando, Fla.
