WALTHAM, MASS –
Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored six goals while
Kendalll Fortune (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and
Madeline Edinger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) each added four to lead No. 11 West Chester to an 18-8 victory over host Bentley Thursday afternoon.
West Chester (4-1) remained perfect on its current road swing while Bentley (1-4) dropped its fourth straight contest. It marked the third win over a Northeast-10 opponent this year as well for the Golden Rams.
A five-goal run at the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second opened up an 8-2 lead for the visitors and they never looked back. Bentley cut into the deficit with three unanswered goals of its own in the second quarter. However, West Chester answered with a three-goal run of its own and ended up scoring seven of the next eight tallies in the contest to break open a 15-6 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Wasdick scored four of the first eight markers for the Golden Rams, and Edinger posted three of the goals during that 7-1 spurt in the third quarter. Meanwhile, West Chester's shutdown defense had only allowed six goals through the first 45 minutes of play, including only one in the third quarter. The Golden Rams forced the Falcons into 20 turnovers in the contest. Bentley actually held a decided 18-10 advantage in draw controls. However, the team's 20 turnovers negated any momentum that the hosts could acquire by winning faceoffs.
Marissa Herring (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett Square) scored twice in the first half.
Lila McMahon-Skates (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and
Mia Beilhart (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) each tallied as well in the win.
Morgan Koons (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) improved to 4-0 on the year in the cage making nine saves in 54 minutes of action. Sophomore transfer,
Korrigan Sweeney (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished up the rest of the way without needing to make any saves. Bentley did not even take a shot in the final six minutes of the game.
West Chester returns to action on Saturday for the final game of this five-game road trip with a contest at Assumption at 1 p.m.
