WEST CHESTER, Pa.-
The West Chester University women's track and field squad is set to return to action this weekend at Widener for the Paul Donahue Invitational. A rare weekend without split-squad action, West Chester will make its second trip of the Spring to Widener after visiting Chester for the Danny Curran Invitational earlier in March.  West Chester heads into this weekend following strong performances at the Bill Butler Invitational and Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic last weekend.

Last Time Out

West Chester's 4x100-meter relay, consisting of Genevieve McDonald (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), Katja Larsen (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Amanda Marquis (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette), and Ava Mills (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), won that event in a time of 48.56 seconds. Marquis was also third in the 400m for the Golden Rams with a personal-best time of 59.08. Rebekah Burnshaw (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) was fifth in 1:00.43. The Golden Rams' A squad of the 4x400m relay was also a winner in 3:56.06. That foursome consisted of Marquis, Molly Minor (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), Larsen, and Cate Hildebrand (Chalfont, Pa./CB South).

 Morgan Pera (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), Leah Wasko (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) and Giavonna Durham (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) finished first, second and third, respectively, in the 100m hurdles for the Golden Rams. Pera put up a time of 14.48 while Wasko finished in 14.76 and Durham finished in 16.04.

 West Chester runners took five of the top six spots in the finals of the 100m. Mills was the winner in 12.25 with Larsen right behind her in 12.26. McDonald placed fourth with a time of 12.35. Teammates Erin Gombert (Lehighton, Pa. Palmerton) was fifth in 12.37 while Mya Thompson (Mount Joy, Pa. Hempfield) was sixth in 12.53. In the 200m, West Chester took spots three through seven in the standings. McDonald was the highest finisher in third with a 25.20 while Gombert and Pera were fourth and fifth, respectively, in 25.55 and 25.65. Minor was sixth in 25.99 while Thompson was seventh in 26.06.

 Hildebrand won the 400m hurldes in a time of 1:04.73. Kaitlynn Keller (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) placed fourth 1:09.66 and Aliah Contreras (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing) was fifth 1:11.04. Kamryn Fontaine (DuBois, Pa. DuBois Area) was seventh in 1:12.74.

 In distance events, Ana Carlow (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) placed seventh in the 1500m with a time of 5 minutes, 08.02 seconds, just ahead of Riley Dortone (Romansville, Pa. Downingtown West), who posted a time of 5:09.01. Both were 17th and 18th, respectively, in the 800m.
 
In the field events, freshman Kendall Thompson (West Chester, Pa./WC East) won the javelin with a throw of 119 feet, 7 inches on her fourth throw. Junior Kayla Lockburner (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) finished third in the jav with a toss of 111-65 which was her second-best toss of the spring. She also placed ninth in the hammer toss 105-9.75.

 Junior Emma Deyarmin (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was the top Golden Ram in the hammer by finishing fourth with a distance of 130-03 on her final attempt. Sophomore Alyson Vogt (Southampton, Pa. William Tennent) finished seventh with a toss of 119-08. Deyarmin finished fourth putting the shot 37-10. She was sixth in the discus with a toss of 118-05. Vogt was ninth and Thompson 10th.

 Hannah LaFave (Spring Brook Township, Pa. North Pocono) tied for first place in the pole vault, clearing 11-6.25. Kaylie Groff (Palmyra, Pa. Palmyra) cleared 11-0.25 to finish third.

 Durham placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 32-1 to go along with her third-place showing in the 100m hurdles.

BISON OUTDOOR CLASSIC

West Chester sent four athletes to the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Senior distance runner Kristina Tapia (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) placed 20th in the Invitational Women's 10,000m in a time of 36:16.78.

Freshman Abbie Williams (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) placed 23rd in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:25.78.

Cassie Nugin (Camp Hill, Pa., Cedar Cliff) entered the 800m and the 400m, finishing 18th in the 800m race in 2:12.95 and 25th in the 400m in 58.52. Ember Foster (Duncannon, Pa. Susquenita) also ran the 400m and the 800m races, finishing 44th and 35th, respectively, in each. She posted a time of 1:00.14 in the 400m and 2:15.12 in the 800m.

 Up Next

West Chester will be back in action next week with a small contingent making the trip to the Penn Relays beginning on April 23, while another squad will compete in the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg on April 24-25.
