Men's Tennis to Host Ursinus on Thursday Afternoon

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University men's tennis team (3-6) is set to take a break from PSAC play on Thursday as Division III Ursinus (8-5) visits South Campus for an interdivisional clash beginning at 2 p.m.

West Chester enters play on Thursday looking to halt a two-match losing streak after falling to Chestnut Hill on the road on Tuesday afternoon by a 5-2 final. Alessandro Melotti  (7-5, 4-6, 1-0) and Thomaz Joly (6-2, 6-2) won their singles matches, while the doubles tandem of Joly and Juan Pablo Beirana-Guzman was victorious in second doubles by a 6-3 final, but it was not enough for the Golden Rams to defeat the homestanding Griffins in the 5-2 road setback.

The Series

Since April 2012, West Chester is 1-3 against Ursinus, including a 4-3 victory at Ursinus last April, which halted a three-match losing streak to the Bears and gave West Chester its first win of the 2024-25 season.

Scouting Ursinus

Ursinus enters play on Wednesday at 8-5 on the year, heading into a match against Eastern at home this afternoon before taking a break from Division III play to face the Golden Rams in West Chester. Ursinus heads into today's match after a 5-2 win over Dickinson last Saturday, which halted a three-match losing streak, which had included losses to Haverford, Swarthmore, and Washington College. Before this streak, Ursinus had won four in a row with wins over Albright, Lebanon Valley, DeSales, and Drew.

In singles play, Deniz Finkel is 6-5 overall, including a 5-2 mark at second singles, while James Fassbender, Noah Dichter, Charles DiCicco, and Russell Nour all have five wins each at 5-4, 5-7, 5-2, and 5-6, respectively. In doubles play, Dichter and Nour are 4-8, including a 4-2 mark in second doubles, while Finkel and Bogdan Maksimovic are 4-5, including a 2-3 mark at first doubles.
