Dr. Neil Curtis to be Inducted Into the NATA Hall of Fame in June

WEST CHESTER, PA. - Dr. Neil Curtis, EdD, LAT, ATC, faculty member and athletic trainer at West Chester University (WCU), was selected for induction into the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Hall of Fame. The formal ceremony will be held at the organization's annual meeting on June 30, 2026, in Philadelphia.
 
Dr. Curtis is currently in his 33rd year at West Chester University . He serves as the Program Director for WCU's esteemed Athletic Training Program. Dr. Curtis has continued to practice clinically throughout his time as an athletic trainer and preceptor. For the last 20 years, he has served as the primary Athletic Trainer (AT) for West Chester's women's soccer team and prior to that worked closely with the men's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's gymnastics, basketball and track & field teams.
 
Dr. Curtis embodies service and dedication to West Chester University and the Athletic Training profession. The impact of Dr. Curtis' work has been recognized regionally as well as nationally with the NATA Most Distinguished Award (2018), NATA Service Award (2010), the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association (EATA) '49 Club (Hall of Fame 2023), EATA Presidential Recognition Award (2015), the Pennsylvania Athletic Training Hall of Fame Award (2022),the Philadelphia Sports Medicine Congress' Ted Quedenfeld Award (2024) and WCU Academic Advising Appreciation Award (2017).
 
Dr. Curtis continues to be heavily involved with state, regional and national athletic training organizations. He served as chair of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society (PATS) Research Committee for 25 years. In 2017, he was elected to serve a six-year term on the Board of Certification (BOC) as Athletic Trainer Director. Dr. Curtis also served as chair of the EATA Student Scholarship Committee for 22 years. Dr. Curtis served on several committees within the Education Council for NATA from 1997-2004. In 2024, he was also appointed by the governor to serve on the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. He is currently on NATA's most distinguished athletic trainer selection committee and the BOC's nominations committee.
 
Prior to West Chester, Dr. Curtis worked at Columbia University, William Paterson University, The Valley Hospital and Bergen Catholic High School. He also finds time to volunteer and provide athletic training services to low-income individuals through the Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) in West Chester a. .
 
Dr. Curtis is originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., and a proud product of the NYC public school system. He received his bachelor's degree from Boston University ('83), his master's degree from the University of Arizona ('84) and his doctoral degree from Columbia University ('93). .
