WEST CHESTER, Pa.-Jordan Nguyen (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) became the fourth Golden Ram in the last three seasons to record a hat trick as she helped lead the fourth-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (5-0-1, 4-0-1) to a 5-0 victory over Mansfield (2-6-0, 0-5-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Nguyen scored two of her three goals in the first half, in the 19th and 21st minutes, to give West Chester an early 2-0 lead and mark her third and fourth goals in her last three games.
Lindsey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored her first goal of the season in the 27th minute and gave West Chester a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break after the Golden Rams had dominated the first half and outshot their guests 24-0.
Nguyen finished off her first career hat trick in the 48th minute off a long pass from
Chloe Bucher (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) as the sophomore became the first Golden Ram to record a hat trick since
Kianna Barber registered a hat trick in an NCAA Tournament win over West Virginia State on Rockwell Field last November.
The Golden Rams added a final goal with just over five minutes to play in the match when
Jenna Eichenbaum (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) scored her first goal as a Golden Ram with a beautiful shot from distance to finish off the 5-0 victory.
West Chester finished the afternoon with a 40-1 lead in shots and a 21-0 lead in shots on goal.
Ashley Deiter (Wellsville, Pa./Northern) halted the Mountaineers' lone shot attempt midway through the second half when she jumped in front of a shot from the top of the box to neutralize the Mounties' only opportunity.
Angel Gule made 16 saves for Mansfield in 77 minutes before exiting for Serenity Esterline, who played the final 13 minutes.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) got the start and played the first 53 minutes before exiting for
Shelby Dougherty (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg Area), who finished off the shutout in goal.
