EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- Abigail Hanemann (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) scored in the 51
st minute to help lift the third-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (2-0-0, 2-0-0) to a 1-0 victory over East Stroudsburg (1-1-0, 1-1-0) inside Eiler-Martin Stadium on Wednesday night.
After a second-half goal proved to be the difference maker in a road victory over Bloomsburg on Saturday, West Chester repeated this effort on Wednesday night as the Golden Rams struck just over five minutes into the second half when a
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) cross found Hanemann on the near post for the eventual game-winning goal. Barber's cross found the foot of Hanemann in between two Warrior defenders and the sophomore directed the ball past Ava Perrone to give West Chester a 1-0 advantage.
This goal came after a first-half performance, which had seen West Chester outshoot its hosts by a 6-1 margin along with a 3-0 lead in corners.
Holding a one-goal lead with just under 10 minutes to play, West Chester came a matter of inches away from extending its lead to 2-0 following a corner, which led to a dangerous bouncing ball in the box, but one chance went off the crossbar, and a deflection was cleared off the line just in time to keep the deficit at 1-0.
West Chester dominated possession throughout the night on Wednesday for its second road win in as many tries, finishing the game with a 16-3 lead in shots, a 6-1 lead in shots on goal, and an 8-2 lead in corners.
Keen made her only save of the night in the final minutes of the match to preserve the shutout victory. Tonight's shutout, Keen's second of the season, is the 30
th of her career, which moves her into solo third in career shutouts, now just two shy of matching Lyndsie Bernardini (2009-10) with 32 for second in team history.
