WEST CHESTER, Pa.- After starting the season with a pair of road wins over Bloomsburg and East Stroudsburg, the third-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (3-0-0) returned home on Saturday afternoon to take on Lackawanna (0-3-0) for the 2026 home opener. West Chester took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break and scored five in the second half to post a 6-0 victory over the visiting Falcons.
Brielle Zink (Islip, N.Y./Islip) opened the scoring for West Chester just over 12 minutes into the match when she finished a loose ball in the box off a
Kate Alexander (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) corner and an
Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) pass to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead.
West Chester threatened through the first half and ended the half with a 25-1 lead in shots and a 10-0 lead in corners, but Lackawanna keeper Sophia Arvelo was exceptional in the opening 45 minutes, making 12 saves to keep the deficit at just one heading into the halftime break.
West Chester took 21 more shots in the second half, with 11 finding their way on goal, and five of those 11 resulted in goals.
Grace Trott (Fulton, Md./Mount De Sales Academy) scored the first goal of the second half on a ball kept in the box by
Sam Versnel (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) just under a little over a minute into the second half before
Abigail Hanemann (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) scored her second goal of the week off a Versnel corner kick moments later to stretch the lead to 3-0.
10 minutes later,
Emma Suhoski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) scored a pair of goals in the span of just over a minute, finishing off a pair of perfectly placed passes into the box, which gave the Golden Rams a commanding 5-0 lead. Suhoski's first goal was a product of great combination passing from
Sarah Roesing (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Trott, while her second goal was a perfectly placed cross from
Laura Caryl (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake).
With just over 10 minutes to play in the match,
Hailey Primwhere (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) finished off the scoring with her first goal of the season off assists from
Claire Zimmerman (Riverton, N.J./Holy Cross Prep) and
Indigo Kirk (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan School for Girls) as West Chester cruised to a 6-0 victory over Lackawanna.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) got the start and the win in goal as she made one save in 63 minutes of action before exiting for
Domenica Rasi (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), who entered for the final 28 minutes and made a pair of stops to preserve the shutout.
Despite a 6-0 scoreline, Arvelo battled throughout the afternoon, making 17 saves in the setback.
West Chester finished the match with a 46-3 lead in shots and a 23-3 lead in shots on goal, along with a 12-0 lead in corners.
