WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The 15
th-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (7-1-1, 6-1-1) returned to action on Wednesday afternoon against Shepherd (8-2-0, 7-2-0) in a critical PSAC East battle on Rockwell Field. West Chester scored twice in the first 30 minutes and used that early lead to halt the Rams' five-game winning streak in a 3-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Kaylee Nagle (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) opened the scoring early for the second time in as many games before
Jordan Nguyen (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) scored the eventual game-winner later in the half as she found the back of the net for the fourth time in the last five games.
Lauren Reimold (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) finished off the scoring early in the second half with her second goal of the season and her first since she scored in the later stages of a 4-1 victory over Shippensburg earlier this fall.
Nagle scored her second goal in as many games just over a minute into the match off a cross into the box from
Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT), which gave West Chester an early 1-0 lead.
In the 29
th minute, Nguyen scored the eventual game-winner after a great string of passing from
Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and Barber, giving West Chester a 2-0 lead with her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Haley Ruddy got Shepherd on the board, finishing off a 2-on-1 breakaway down the middle of the field as the Rams got in behind the West Chester defense and cut the lead in half heading into the halftime break.
It only took a few moments in the second half for West Chester to stretch its lead back to two as Reimold finished a chance in the box following a Barber corner kick, which found the feet of
Kara Slavin (Abington, Pa./Abington) for a service into the box toward the near post. This well-placed service found Reimold for her second goal of the season, which gave West Chester a commanding 3-1 advantage.
West Chester finished the game with a 19-13 lead in shots and a 9-7 lead in shots on goal, along with a 9-6 lead in corners.
Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) made six saves in the victory, including five second-half stops to finish off the Golden Rams' first regular-season win over Shepherd since October 2024. Today's victory was also the Golden Rams first win over Shepherd on Rockwell Field since October 2003.
