GARDEN CITY, NY – Junior Anna Finn (Windsor, NY/Windsor) scored off a penalty corner seven minutes into overtime lifting No. 5 West Chester to a 2-1 non-league field hockey victory over host Adelphi at Motamed Field Sunday afternoon.
 
West Chester remains unbeaten on the year at 2-0 with its second win in three days while Adelphi (0-2) dropped its second straight match to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent this week.
 
The Golden Rams ended the contest on Finn's game-winner in the 68th minute. Nina Scott (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) provided the assist.
 
West Chester's Sofia Brown (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) put the visitors on top in the second quarter with a goal in the 17th minute when she poked in a rebound. That's the way things would stay until the hosts evened the scoresheet with a goal in the fourth quarter to send the match into overtime.
 
West Chester freshman goalkeeper, Erin O'Brien (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) turned away six shots, including three in the overtime period, to pick up her second win in as many games in the cage. Her counterpart, Tayla Szmak, made seven saves in the losing effort.
 
West Chester and Adelphi were even in shots, 16-16, but the Golden Rams held a decided 13-5 advantage in penalty corners.
 
The Golden Rams return to action next Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. start at Mansfield in a non-league match. Mansfield will pay a visit to West Chester on October 2, which will count in the conference standings.
