JUNE M. COHEN SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

The Cohen Family, in collaboration with the West Chester University Foundation are pleased to announce the establishment of the June M. Cohen Scholarship Endowment to benefit the West Chester University Field Hockey program. 

June Brown was born into the projects in Staten Island, New York.  Her family moved to Middletown, New Jersey, just before she started high school.  After graduating in 1969, she attended Adelphi University.  Initially, she was in the nursing program, but later switched to the education department.  She graduated in 1973.  It was during college that she met and fell in love with Stanley Cohen to whom she would be married for 45 years.
 
In 1977, June and Stan moved to the Jersey Shore and settled in Linwood New Jersey where Stan opened his dental practice.  June worked in Stan's office as he was starting his practice; until their children, Amy and Michael, were born.  June was always active in causes that were important to her, including her Temple, the Beth Israel Sisterhood, and the Ruth Newman Shapiro Cancer and Heart Fund.  While she stayed active in the community, she was still always there for her own children.  She was consistently the school or group or the team mom for whatever Amy or Mike were involved with.  This is where June's love of field hockey began.  She was always Amy's number 1 fan.  June hosted everything from pasta parties in high school, to college tailgates at Lafayette, to baking her famous cookies and lemon squares for her Golden Rams.  June always gave Amy's players Halloween bags with Stan's toothbrushes and a 4-leaf clover attached, fresh pressed from one of her special patches out on the Bike Path.  She became friends with both the Golden Ram's players and their parents.  Many of these friendships were maintained on Facebook and many continued after graduation. 
 
June loved her family, her friends, her dogs, gardening, baking, and her Golden Rams.  What was truly special about June was her ability to connect to everyone.  June was not just a friend to many, she was a best friend to many who considered her part of their family.  June and Stan recently retired to Ibis in West Palm Beach where they once again met many wonderful people.  June will be remembered for many things, most especially a one of a kind heart.  June loved fiercely yet always had compassion for others.  June loved what her husband loved; their dogs, sitting out at the pool, shopping at Homegoods, and always a great meal out at Los Amigos or The Waterway.  She loved what her children loved; Alt Rock on XM with Mike and Katie, Amy's love and passion for anything athletic including The Golden Rams and The Philadelphia Eagles.  June's last and most likely greatest love was her grandchildren, Alex, Kaci and Avery.  Momma June and Alex had a special bond that included watching Hi Ho a million times, reading Elmo books over and over, hot chocolate parties, and singing every childhood song Katie and Amy could never remember.
 
June's generosity towards others was one of her finest and most admirable qualities.  Whether she was giving of her time, or giving money to someone on the street corner, or a Shop Rite gift card to students in need of good food and nutrition, June always wanted to lend a helping hand.  All June Cohen ever needed to know was that she was helping someone in need.  June never needed a thank you from anyone, she often times helped those in need anonymously, out of the kindness of her heart. It is out of the love that June showed for all, that this scholarship has been created.  June would love to know that she was able to continue to support the Golden Ram Field Hockey Family.
