John Fleming begins his sixth season with the West Chester Golden Rams' baseball program serving as the pitching coach for head coach Mike LaRosa. He comes to the Golden Rams from the high school ranks where he was the head coach at West Chester East High School from 2019-21.
West Chester's pitching staff has ranked among the Top 5 in the conference in two of the previous five years under Fleming's watch. Former left-handed workhorse, Braeden Fausnaught signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and currently pitches for the Reading Fighting Phils. The 2024 squad posted a 4.24 team ERA, which is the lowest during Fleming's time at the school.
In three seasons with the Vikings, Fleming qualified for the playoffs the two years that there was a season. The 2020 spring campaign was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Vikings qualified for the PIAA District I playoffs in 2019 and 2021 - losing in the district semifinals lin 2021. He posted a 22-21-1 overall mark in two seasons at East.
Prior to that, Fleming spent eight season (2009-16) at the helm of Neumann University's Division III baseball program, authoring an overall record of 189-136-3 During that span, the Knights qualified for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason in all eight campaigns, receiving three ECAC South Tournament and two NCAA Tournament bids.His Knights were CSAC runner-up four times in eight years, his clubs won 30 games twice and he was named CSAC Coach of the Year in 2009 and Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2012.
Fleming tutored former Knight outfielder Gary Mitchell, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 21st round of the 2010 MLB Entry Draft.
Fleming went to Neumann after one year as the pitching coach at Widener University. Prior to Widener, Fleming served three seasons as the head baseball coach at Monsignor Bonner High School (2005-07). He guided the Friars to the playoffs all three years, including setting a school record for most wins over a two-year period. Prior to Bonner, Fleming spent 11 seasons coaching at Cardinal O’Hara High School, starting out as the Assistant JV Coach and being named the varsity pitching coach in 1998.
