Joe Walsh

  • Title
    Defensive Line Coach
Joe Walsh returned to head coach Bill Zwaan’s coaching staff five years ago, following one of the most successful high school head coaching careers in Chester County. He will mentor the defensive tackles.

Walsh assisted the West Chester University football program in April 2013 during spring drills, before coming onto the staff for the fall campaign a year ago. Since then, the Golden Rams have led the PSAC in sacks three times and led the PSAC in total defense in 2018.

Walsh was the head coach at nearby West Chester Henderson High School for 20 years (1992-2011), racking up a career record of 148-117 and three Ches-Mont League championships in tow. Additionally, Walsh was named Ches-Mont League coach of the year on three occasions and Chester County Area coach of the year four times. Walsh also won a Delaware Valley championship in 1990 as head coach at Sun Valley High School.

A 1972 graduate of West Chester University, Walsh never strayed very far from his routes and always kept strong ties to his alma mater. He is currently a Killinger Foundation board member and has been for the past eight years. His knowledge of the game of football and familiarity with the institution makes him a perfect fit for Coach Zwaan’s staff.

Walsh served as a Health & Physical Education teacher in the West Chester Henderson School District from 35 years, before retiring in 2008. He is also a co-founder and partner in W&W Option Football Camps, LLC., which has been around since 2001. He was inducted into the PA Scholastic Football Coaches Assoc. Hall of Fame in 2014.
