    Offensive Line
Nick Sama enters his 23rd season with West Chester University and second without former head coach Bill Zwaan, Sr. The veteran mentor will again coach the offensive line for Duke Greco and the Golden Rams this fall.

Sama’s offensive line is a big reason why West Chester has fielded a running back that has rushed for over 1,000 yards nine times in his 22 seasons. The team's leading rusher ran for over 900 yards in three of the last five years as well. Jarel Elder was the latest back to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in 2017 as he walked away with PSAC East offensive player of the year honors for his exploits running behind the Golden Rams’ front line.

Sama has tutored 22 different offensive linemen, who earned first or second team all-conference a grand total of 39 times, including landing one on the all-conference team in each of his 18 seasons at West Chester. Seventeen of those 22, who earned all-conference, collected a total of 23 first-team All-PSAC honors. Seven of those went on to be named All-America, including one (Tyler Drob) who was a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award - handed out to the top lineman in Division II.

In 2013, running back Rondell White broke the school’s single-season rushing record with 1,989 yards while also scoring 21 touchdowns. His 3,107 all-purpose yards were the second-most in a single season at the Division II level. All of those accomplishments were made possible by one of the top offensive lines in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Golden Rams’ offense ranked fifth in both rushing and total offense in the PSAC while ranking fourth in fewest sacks allowed.

While at Widener, Sama coached the offensive line for 19 years in the highly regarded Middle Atlantic Conference, winning nine championships. He also has coached in several Eastern College Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III playoff games while his tutoring has produced numerous all-conference and All-America linemen.

As a freshman during his college playing days in 1973, Sama was a member of the Juniata College team that finished second in the nation, after competing in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl - the NCAA Division III national championship game.

The 1973 graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia received multiple postseason commendations, including all-catholic, all-city, all-state and all-scholastic honors.

Sama was chosen to the 1970’s “Philadelphia Team of the Decade,” and he was selected Philadelphia Area person of the year in 1991. In 1992 Sama was honored by his alma mater and inducted into the West Catholic High School Hall of Fame.

Sama earned his masters degree in Education from St. Joseph’s (Pa.) University. He recently retired from teaching in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District. He currently resides in Chadds Ford, Pa.
