Former West Chester softball all-star Laura Altenburger begins her fifth year as the program's full-time assistant coach and sixth season overall. She assumed her duties as the softball team's top assistant on a part-time basis in 2017 and was elevated to full time in 2018.
West Chester won the PSAC Eastern Division in each of Altenburger's first four seasons assisting head coach Diane Lokey, as well as three consecutive Atlantic Region titles (2018-2019, 2021) while reaching the NCAA Division II Softball Championships those same seasons. As a result, Altenburger was part of a staff that was named Atlantic Region Coach of the Year on each occasion. Along the way, infielder Bri Garber was named the player of the year in 2018 and set the school's all-time hits record in 2020, before the season was halted due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Altenburger, a 2016 graduate of West Chester University and former conference player of the year for the Golden Rams', became the first full-time assistant coach in program history in 2018. The Golden Rams won the PSAC Championship in 2017 wih Altenburger on the coaching staff, and added a second conference crown in 2021.
The former third baseman for the Golden Rams helped the squad to a 34-16 mark last spring, including a PSAC title, Atlantic Region title and third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships. She was part of the region's coaching staff of the year for the third straight time
In 2017, "LAMA" helped the Golden Rams to a 48-13 overall record and a share of the PSAC Eastern Division title – the team's third straight conference crown. West Chester won the PSAC Tournament for the first time in school history and advanced to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional where the Golden Rams dropped the Best-of-3 series to West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1.

LAMA was the Golden Rams' starting third baseman from 2013 to 2016. She helped West Chester reach the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time in school history in 2014. There, the sophomore hit .500 on Division II's brightest stage (4-for-8), with a 3-run HR mixed in, serving as the only non-senior starting around the horn for Lokey's crew that year. LAMA was the PSAC East Athlete of the Year her senior season (2016) while earning a second-team nod at third base. West Chester made an NCAA Tournament appearance all four years of her college career with a pair of Super Regional appearances as well.
