SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Ricky Williamson scored both goals to lead West Chester to a 2-0 victory over homestanding Shippensburg in PSAC East men’s soocer action on an overcast afternoon Wednesday.
Williamson tipped in a cross from Jason Mackel in the 23rd minute to give West Chester (5-4-2, 2-2-1 PSAC East) the lead before halftime. Moments later Golden Rams’ defender Marc Michell made an outstanding defensive save when a Shippensburg forward blasted a shot at WCU goalkeeper Garret Santora that the Rams’ keeper made a diving save on. The rebound went right to another Raider, who shot on goal, but Michell knocked it down and cleared the ball out of danger.
Shippensburg (1-7-2, 0-4-1) never recovered, and Williamson banged home an insurance tally in the 80th minute off an assist from Bryan Nugent.
Santora made five saves for the Golden Rams, who snapped a five-game winless streak with the victory. Brad Patke stopped seven shots in a losing effort for Shippensburg.
