No. 19 West Chester Travels To No. 4 Bloomsburg For PSAC East Title Clash Saturday

Game Notes

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The 65th edition of one of the PSAC’s most storied rivalries takes center stage as No. 19 West Chester travels to No. 4 Bloomsburg with the Eastern Division title on the line Saturday afternoon inside Robert B. Redman Stadium at 3:30 p.m. A statewide audience can tune in to all of the action on PA SportsFever TV. Check your local listings for channels in your area.

For all intent and purposes, the PSAC has what amounts to a semifi nal weekend as California (Pa.) travels to Mercyhurst Saturday in a game that will decide the Western Division, while West Chester and Bloomsburg square off for the East crown. The two winners will meet next Saturday (Nov. 8) in the re-instated “State” game as it was referred to from 1960 to 1987 when it was discontinued.

A win Saturday puts the Golden Rams in the PSAC Championship Game against either Cal or Mercyhurst. West Chester would travel to one of those two schools. A loss would mean a trip to either Mercyhurst or Gannon.

The history of this rivalry is replete with dramatic fi nishes, playoff tilts and some of the most memorable PSAC contests in the 58-year history of the conference. Two years ago in the second round of the NCAA II playoffs, Bloomsburg held off a determined West Chester squad and partially blocked a game-winning fi eld goal attempt to advance to the national quarterfi nals. Last season, West Chester smothered Bloomsburg, 44-28, on Homecoming weekend, which incidentally, is the last time that the Huskies lost a football game.

Bloomsburg brings a 14-game win streak into Saturday’s contest. West Chester is looking for its fi rst win in Bloomsburg under current head coach Bill Zwaan. The Golden Rams have not won this game on the road since 1999 (35-17). The preseason favorites in the East would like nothing better than to end that string today and stamp its ticket to the title game over one of its bitter rivals.
