Men's Basketball Wins Second Straight, 76-58

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
– Ralph Hegamin notched 20 points and Kehinde Roberts had 19 points as West Chester upended host University of the Sciences, 76-58, Tuesday evening in a non-league men’s basketball contest.

West Chester (2-1) won its second straight under first-year head coach Damien Blair thanks to a stellar defensive effort in the second half and a trio of 3-pointers that bludgeoned the hopes of the Devils (0-2).

The Golden Rams ran out on a 15-4 run at the beginning of the second half that turned a four-point halftime lead (40-36) into a 15-point advantage. Minutes later, Kevin Stokes, Kenneth St. George and Ralph Hegamin buried consecutive 3-pointers that pushed an eight-point edge out to 17. The Rams’ lead would never dip below 10 after that spurt.

St. George contributed 16 points on the strength of a 4-for-7 night beyond the arc. West Chester shot 63 percent from 3-point range in the game (14 of 22). Hegamin was 8-for-10 from the field, including a perfect 2-for-2 from 3-point land and the foul line as well.

West Chester held USP to 33 percent shooting from the floor in the second half as the Golden Rams turned up the pressure and doused the Devils’ comeback bid.

West Chester will host Philadelphia University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
