WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester’s women’s gymnastics squad will celebrate 50 years of women’s athletics at the school when the Golden Rams welcome Brown and Southern Connecticut State to Sturzebecker’s South Campus Gym on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009.
West Chester University continues its year-long celebration of 50 years of women’s athletics. The Golden Rams’ gymnasts will wear a patch commemorating the school’s long and storied history, a banner will be placed in Sturzebecker Gym for the occasion and an announcement will be made prior to the competition.
West Chester University would like to invite all alumni, former gymnasts and head coaches, as well as friends of the program to that triangular meet with Brown and Southern Connecticut State on Feb. 1.
Brown University, one of the two participants in the triangular meet Feb. 1, also boasts a long and storied history in women’s athletics. Many of its women’s intercollegiate athletic programs date back to the mid 1960s.
Former Brown gymnast and current volunteer assistant coach Alicia Sacramone was a member of the 2008 U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team that competed in the Beijing Olympics last summer.
Southern Connecticut State is the defending ECAC Division II champions, taking home the trophy last March at the championships which were held at West Chester University.
