WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's department of athletics announced that Saturday's men's and women's basketball doubleheader against California (Pa.) at Hollinger Field House will be "Take-Your-Parent-To-A-Game" Day.
All children paying the price of admission to Saturday's doubleheader will get up to two adult tickets for free with their accompanying parent or guardian. The women's game against No. 5 Cal tips off at 1 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.
On the women's side, Cal enters with an overall record of 6-2 on the season, along with its top ten national ranking. The Vulcans dropped a 63-61 decision to Fayetteville State in the Bahamas on Dec. 19 before breaking for the holidays. That loss ended a modest three-game winning streak for the Vulcans.
Brooque Williams leads the team, averaging a double-double on the year with 19.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Kayla Smith averages 15.5 points per contest.
West Chester (7-2) will play its first game since a rout of visiting Goldey-Beacom (91-63) on Dec. 20. Reining East player of the year Dana Weems is the Golden Rams' top scorer with 15.9 points per game. Both Megan Stewart and Janelle Garber average better than 11 points per game as well.
On the men's side, Cal (5-3) split its two contests in a tournament in Ashland, Ohio earlier this week. The Vulcans have won five of their last six on the season after dropping their first two tilts of the 2008-09 campaign.
West Chester (6-2) has won six of its last seven, including a 67-57 decision over Goldey-Beacom its last time out on Dec. 20. Kenneth St. George, Ralph Hegamin and Kehinde Roberts lead the Golden Rams' charge on the hardwood.
West Chester upset Cal a year ago at Hollinger Field House for just its fourth win all-time against the Vulcans and first since the 2002-03 season.
