Rutgers Storms Past West Chester, 6-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Amy Lewis netted four goals on the strength of two penalty strokes to lead visiting Rutgers to a 6-0 victory over host West Chester in a non-league field hockey match at South Campus Turf Field Sunday afternoon.

On a sun-splashed Labor Day weekend, the Scarlet Knights scored three times in each half and limited the Golden Rams to just five shots on goal in a convincing win.

Jenna Bull opened the scoring with 19:33 remaining in the first half when her shot from 10 yards out right in front of the net beat WCU goalkeeper Joelle Zarefoss.

Lewis scored on the first of her two penalty strokes 10 minutes later and then added a back-breaker with 43 seconds to go before halftime. Katie Feeley set up Lewis nicely in front of the cage eight yards away.

Lewis converted another penalty stroke early in the second half to give Rutgers a 4-0 lead and record her hat trick for the day.

Sarah Dunn and Lewis each scored eight minutes apart later in the second half to account for the 6-0 score. Jill Beck assisted on Dunn’s marker with 19 minutes left in the game. Dunn let go a rocket of a shot from just inside the circle that beat Zarefoss to the far corner.

Rutgers outshot West Chester 14-12 and held a 7-6 advantage on penalty corners.

Lyndsey Caliendo made five saves in the game while Zarefoss made two.

The Golden Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Lehigh for a non-conference tilt.
