West Chester (4-1-1) hit a crossbar in the first OT period and rang the post once in the second half, but could not get the elusive marker that would have given the Golden Rams the win. Philadelphia U produced a few excellent opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the contest. However, West Chester settled down and controlled much of the flow from that point on.
Justin Johnson made his first start of the season in net and came up with three fantastic saves during Philadelphia’s early flurry. Unfortunately, the goalkeeper was kicked in the hand on the third save and had to leave the tilt never to return.
Peter Weiss came on and took the Golden Rams home the rest of the way, combining for his second shutout in as many days. Weiss relieved Garret Santora in Tuesday’s PSAC East win over Kutztown in Farrell Stadium. He and Santora combined for the the 7-0 blanking in that one.
Johnson was credited with five saves before leaving in the 24th minute. Weiss was credited with eight saves the rest of the way. Philadelphia U outshot West Chester, 21-18.
Chris Tucci almost won the game in regulation when he hit the round post head-on. The ball bounced directly back to him. However, nobody could put the ball away in the ensuing melee in front.
Head coach Kendall Walkes used the non-league game as an opportunity to look at everybody on his roster as the Rams used almost everybody that made the trip. West Chester is preparing for a very stiff challenge on Saturday when the Rams travel to East Stroudsburg for a PSAC East showdown with the No. 5 team in the nation.
