SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Claire Afrassiabian was the only winner of the afternoon for West Chester's women's tennis squad as they fell on the road at No. 29 Slippery Rock Friday afternoon.
Afrassiabian's win at No. 2 singles came as a result of a withdrawal due to injury by The Rock's Laura Handy. Afrassiabian was leading Handy by a 5-2 score in the first set when Handy had to withdraw. Afrassiabian and Maria Kostaris teamed up at No. 1 doubles, but fell by an 8-2 margin to Kayla Blackburn and Handy.
Kara Shumock and Teresa Grasso teamed at No. 2 doubles, but lost 8-3 to Chelsea Gibson and Lara Rizzi.
West Chester (1-2) will take on Mercyhurst Saturday in the second of its two-day western swing around the Keystone State this weekend.
