West Chester Pulls Out OT Win Over Lehigh, 3-2

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa.
– Brittany Cislak re-directed a shot from Desiree Walker off a penalty corner that was going wide into the net in the 90th minute to lift West Chester to a 3-2 double overtime victory over Lehigh on the road in a non-league field hockey contest at Ulrich Sports Complex.

Cislak’s first career goal made winners out of the Golden Rams (1-1) for the first time in 2008 and upped the team’s personal win streak over the Mountain Hawks (0-2) to three straight in the process.

Alex Swayze scored West Chester’s other two tallies with Lauren DuBois picking up an assist on Swayze’s first tally in the first half. Swayze added her second of the night off a rebound on penalty corner for the unassisted marker.

“Walker’s shot off the penalty corner was actually off the mark. But, Britt was there to re-direct it,” WCU head coach Kathy Krannebitter said. “We had some really good chances in the overtime. We just couldn’t capitalize until the end there.”

Joelle Zarefoss was credited with 18 saves on the night.

“Jo played great,” Krannebitter praised. “One goal was scored on a penalty stroke and the other on a busted penalty corner.”

Lehigh tied the game with four minutes to play in regulation, sending the contest into overtime. West Chester controlled most of the action in extra time until Cislak was in the right spot at the right time to bang in the game-winner.

The Golden Rams are off until Sunday when they travel to Monmouth for another non-conference tilt.
