Men’s Basketball Falls At Slippery Rock, 76-63

Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ralph Hegamin scored 20 points and Sandy Tanner poured in a career-high 17, but it was not enough to overcome host Slippery Rock’s hot shooting from beyond the 3-point line as The Rock went on for a 76-63 non-league PSAC crossover victory over the Golden Rams in men’s basketball action inside Morrow Field House on Sunday afternoon.

West Chester (9-4) saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end, while Slippery Rock (9-4) put an end to its three-game slide. The Golden Rams have still won five of their last seven as they head into the league slate this coming week and are 8-5 against the PSAC Western Division over the past two years.

Slippery Rock shot 13-for-32 (40.6 percent) from behind the 3-point arc in the contest to keep West Chester at bay for most of the afternoon. Michael Evans hit seven treys and finished with 26 points while Maurice Douglas hit six from downtown and put up 25 points.

The Rock ran out to a 13-5 lead early in the first half and never trailed in the game. Slippery Rock extended that lead to 20 later in the half, but West Chester knocked it back down to 11 (36-25) at the break.

An 8-2 run by the Golden Rams at the beginning of the second half drew West Chester to within three (38-35), but that was as close as the visitors would ever get.

West Chester will be back home at Hollinger Field House on Wednesday evening when it opens the PSAC East slate against visiting Millersville at 8 p.m.
