PROVIDENCE, R.I. – West Chester University took first place in four of five events as the Golden Rams handed first-year head coach Barbara Cordova a victory in her first college meet Friday night with a 177.35-172.85 win at Rhode Island College.
West Chester (1-0) freshmen Alli Aquilla and Amber Miller stole the show in picking up all four of the Rams’ first-place ribbons. Rhode Island (0-1) standout Casey Lesieur took top honors on the floor exercise.
Aquilla placed first on the vault (9.4) and the uneven bars (9.025), which sparked her first-place showing in the all-around with a 36.250. Miller scored a 9.35 on the balance beam to capture the top spot in that event.
Junior Jenna Ciatto placed second in the beam behind Miller with a 9.100. She also placed second in the floor exercise with a 9.150.
Senior captain Stephanie Clark placed third in the balance beam with an 8.85, and Laura D’Annunzio was third on the uneven bars with an 8.90. D’Annunzio was West Chester’s only other all-around performer. She scored a 34.850 overall in her first college meet to place fourth.
“It was quite a good meet for the first time out,” Cordova commented. “We started on bars and came out really strong and just kept the momentum going from there.”
West Chester travels to Upstate New York and Ithaca College next Saturday for a tri-meet with the Bombers and SUNY Cortland.
