WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Chester County native Dave Ben hit eight of nine 3-point attempts and finished with a game-high 36 points as Kutztown shot the lights out of Hollinger Field House en route to a 97-71 PSAC East men’s basketball victory over host West Chester.
Ben went 12 of 16 from the field, which included his 8-for-9 from beyond the arc, and nailed all four of his foul shots to pace Kutztown (15-3, 4-1 PSAC East). West Chester (12-6, 3-2) shot a respectable 50 percent from the floor, but could not keep up with the Golden Bears, who seemingly did not miss a shot all night.
Case in point, Ben knocked down a 3-pointer from 35 feet out with a hand in his face as the first-half buzzer sounded that upped the Bears’ lead to 13 at the break. Kutztown came out of halftime with two thunderous dunks, and the visitors were off to the races.
Kutztown shot 62.1 percent from the field for the game, connecting on 36 shots from the floor, and also shot an incredible 66.7 percent from 3-point range. The topper was the Bears’ perfect 13-for-13 from the foul line.
Andre Woodlin poured in 24 points for Kutztown, and Ryan Washington scored 13. Ben contributed seven assists to his 36-point night.
Ralph Hegamin led West Chester with another 20-point outing. He reached that plateau for the third straight game and the sixth time in the Rams’ last seven contests. Kenny St. George added 19 points on 4 of 6 shooting from 3-point land.
