WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Dana Weems scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but the Golden Rams women’s basketball team suffered its first loss in the PSAC East conference this season with a tough, 67-60, defeat at the hands of Kutztown on Wednesday night at Hollinger Field House.
Janelle Garber added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Rams, who shot just 33.9 percent from the floor in the loss. West Chester (12-6, 4-1 PSAC East) led right from the beginning, even opening up a 24-11 lead with 5:03 left in the first half.
Renata Neal put in a solid game for the Golden Rams, scoring nine points and grabbing three rebounds. It was her layup that put the Golden Rams up 40-29 with 14:43 remaining in the second half.
However, Kutztown (13-5, 4-1) went on a 22-10 run over a span of 9:06 to take a 51-50 lead with 5:37 remaining. Kutztown never looked back and sank their free throws to ice away the game at the end.
The loss drops the Golden Rams into a tie for first place with Kutztown each with identical 4-1 league marks.
Allison Hostetter joined in the fun with six points, four rebounds, and three steals. Jill Keefer chipped in with six points and six rebounds.
