Women's Basketball to Host East Stroudsburg for Senior Day on Saturday

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-The West Chester women's basketball team (11-15, 7-13) is preparing for its season finale on Saturday afternoon against East Stroudsburg (16-11, 11-9) beginning at 1 p.m. Despite Wednesday night's dominant victory over Millersville, West Chester has been eliminated from PSAC Tournament contention by virtue of other results around the PSAC so Saturday's game will be the final of the 2025-26 campaign.

West Chester got back in the win column on Wednesday night with a dominant 77-41 victory at Millersville. West Chester scored a season-high 48 first-half points, shooting 61.1 % (11-of-18) from the field in the first quarter and 57.1 % (8-for-14) in the second to take a 48-16 lead into the halftime break. West Chester stretched its lead to as many as 40 with a minute to play in the third and retained a 40-point lead into the fourth quarter en route to a 36-point road victory. West Chester finished the game shooting 47.6 % (30-of-63) from the field after shooting north of 50.0 % in each of the first three quarters. West Chester also shot 31.3 % (5-of-16) from three-point range and was 12-for-14 (85.7 %) at the free throw line. Millersville shot just 22.2 % (12-for-54) from the field, including a 2-for-17 (11.8 %) effort from three-point range, while also going 15-for-22 (68.2 %) at the line. Marianna Papazoglou (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) led all scorers with 17 points, while Lena Stein (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) added 16 of her own along with nine rebounds as West Chester finished the game with a 46-29 lead in rebounding and a 46-20 lead in points in the paint along with a 13-6 lead in second-chance points.

West Chester earns its first win in February on Wednesday night and now enters play averaging 62.2 points per game on 40.3 % shooting from the field, while also shooting 26.0 % from beyond the arc. West Chester's opponents enter play averaging 62.5 points per game on 37.5 % shooting from the field and 26.3 % from beyond the arc, while retaining a 37.7-37.6 lead in rebounding and a 17.2-17.0 lead in turnovers. Individually, Lena Stein continues to lead West Chester in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game, including her 16 at Millersville on Wednesday night, while also leading the team in rebounding (5.9/g) and steals (1.9/g). Stein is a big part of the Golden Ram rookie class, which enters the season finale averaging 33.5 points per game and accounting for 53.9 % (872-of-1,617) points scored by the Purple and Gold this winter. Kimi Sayson (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) leads West Chester in assists, averaging 2.5 per game, followed by Ava Mazur (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), who averages 2.3 per game. Papazoglou is second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 8.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while Macie McCracken (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood) is third in scoring, averaging 8.4 points per game.

The Golden Rams will honor three seniors prior to the game in Alainna Hopta (York, Pa./West York), Papazoglou, and Sofia Coleman (Dresher, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) for all their contributions to the Golden Rams throughout their careers

After outscoring opponents in the paint in 24-of-30 games last year (976-534), West Chester is right back at its old tricks this season, outscoring opponents 820 (32.8)-680 (27.2) in the paint through its 25 Division II games of the season.

Home Sweet Home

West Chester remains hard to beat at home as the Golden Rams are 42-10 at home since January 2023 and are 51-18 since the beginning of the 2021-22 season, including a 27-game home winning streak, which lasted into December 2024 and was, for a night, the longest home winning streak in Division II women's basketball.

Series History

West Chester fell to East Stroudsburg earlier this season for the first time since February 2020, halting an eight-game winning streak with a 75-57 loss inside Koehler Field House. The loss dropped West Chester to 87-34 all-time against East Stroudsburg, dating back to the first meeting in February 1960. West Chester has not lost to East Stroudsburg at home since a 68-53 loss in Hollinger in January 2019, which was part of a three-game losing streak that halted a modest three-game Golden Ram winning streak. West Chester is also 8-2 in its last 10 games against ESU, dating back to the February 29, 2020, loss in the Poconos (L, 51-43).

East Stroudsburg enters play following a 60-53 loss to Kutztown for its second loss in as many games after falling to Lock Haven on February 18. East Stroudsburg held a two-point (32-30) lead at the half but was outscored 30-21 in the second half as the Golden Bears stormed back for the seven-point road victory. ESU shot 37.9 % (22-of-58) from the field in the loss, including a 4-for-17 (23.5 %) effort from three-point range, while also going 5-for-5 at the line, including a 4-for-4 effort in the first half. Avery White led three Warriors in double figures with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field, while Lacie Kringe and Brie Droege added 13 each. White also led the team in rebounds and assists, finishing with five and four, respectively.

 ESU enters the weekend averaging 66.0 points per game on 40.7 % shooting from the field and 28.2 % from beyond the arc, while also shooting 70.9 % at the free throw line. The Warriors' opponents enter play averaging 62.9 points per game on 38.6 % shooting from the field and 28.9% from deep, while also holding a 37.7-36.8 lead in rebounding, although the Warriors do maintain a 16.6-19.9 lead in turnovers, thanks in part to 10.3 steals per game led by Jess Devine and her 2.0 per game.

Individually, Brie Droege leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game, followed by White, who averages 12.0 points per game. Caitlin Marten is first on the team in rebounding, averaging 5.6 per game, while Droege is second, averaging 5.2, followed by Kringe and her 4.7. Devine, Kringe, and White are all tied for first on the team in assists, averaging 3.1 helpers per game as well.
