SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Patrick Conley headed in the game winner six minutes into overtime as host Slippery Rock escaped with a 2-1 overtime victory against West Chester University in a PSAC crossover men’s soccer match Saturday afternoon inside Thompson Stadium.
West Chester (3-7-2) held a 1-0 advantage for much of the game before Slippery Rock (11-2) evened the score in the 85th minute. Jeremy Deighton, one of the conference’s leading scorers, headed in his 11th goal of the season off a corner kick to knot things up and send the game into extra time.
Bryan Nugent had given the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. He took a feed from Ricky Williamson and placed the ball in the upper right-hand side of the net.
Goalkeeper Peter Weiss suffered the loss in goal for West Chester. He played the final 40 minutes, allowing both Slippery Rock goals and making four saves. Freshman Garrett Bleiler started the contest and played the first 60 minutes, making five saves without allowing a tally. The Rock’s Greg Blum made four saves to pick up the win.
West Chester travels to Millersville on Saturday, Oct. 16.
