WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester used stingy defense and an early goal from Alisha Moran to knock off a feisty Saint Louis squad 3-0 in a cold and wet Atlantic-10 match up on Friday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
With the victory, West Chester (7-7, 2-0 A-10) pushed their record back to the .500 mark on the season. Saint Louis (1-12, 0-2 A-10) continues to struggle in 2009.
Moran’s goal came just over a minute in as she beat Saint Louis goal keeper Katherine Deem with a high shot into the upper corner. The goal was Moran’s 5th of the year.
Saint Louis settled down however, frustrating the Golden Rams’ offense for the remainder of the first-half.
West Chester pulled away in the second-half, getting goals from Kristen Foore and Michele Schrift in the 46th and 63rd minutes.
West Chester goal-keeper Joelle Zarefoss notched her second shutout of the year. She recorded four stops in the victory. Deem stopped 11 shots for the Billikins.
West Chester out-shot Saint Louis (19-5) and held the edge in penalty corners (9-2).
The Golden Rams return to action Sunday, October 18th on the road against Atlantic-10 opponent Richmond.
