WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Seniors took center stage in their final home game as host West Chester shut out visiting Philadelphia University, 4-0, in a non-league men's soccer match at John A. Farrell Stadium Wednesday evening.
West Chester (4-9-2) got a pair of goals and a pair of assists from its senior class in the win. Philadelphia University, dropped to 11-6 on the year.
Zach Weaver put the Golden Rams on the board in the first half when his diving header from 8 yards out found the far corner past PhilaU's goalkeeper Emmauel Assengmbeng. Weaver, a senior co-captain, finished off a beautiful direct kick from classmate Chris Ponto from 25 yards out for the only goal of the first half.
West Chester then scored three times in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Bryan Nugent put the Rams on top 2-0 when he banged home a rebound of a shot from Ryan Dicci in the 52nd minute. Nugent, another of the seniors, put the ball into an open net after Assengmbeng could not hold the shot from Dicci.
Freshman Josh Labik scored next when he knocked in a rebound off a shot from Jabari DeCoteau in the 73rd minute. Labik's shot crawled over the line before two PhilaU defenders tried to bring the ball back.
Freshman Neil Gallagher then flicked a header into the far corner from 12 yards out off a throw in from senior Marc Michell in the 85th minute to close out the scoring.
Garrett Bleiler started in goal and went the first 53 minutes, making four saves to improve to 3-1-1 on the year. Junior Peter Weiss relieved him and made three saves the rest of the way.
Assengmbeng made six saves in the loss for Philadelphia University.
West Chester concludes its season on Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
