Box Score
West Chester, Pa. – California (Pa.) scored three goals in the first half and survived a furious rush from the Golden Rams in the second to clip host West Chester University on Homecoming weekend at South Campus Soccer Field.
West Chester (2-5-2, 0-3-2 PSAC East) has now lost two straight games after winning two consecutive games over Lincoln and UDC. Cal (8-3, 1-3 PSAC West) improved to 6-0 this season against non-conference opponents.
Cal struck first just minutes into the contest as Spencer Crider beat West Chester goalkeeper Peter Weiss with a quick shot from the top of the box. Justin Taucher followed 10 minutes later as he weaved through the Golden Rams’ defense before striking a well-placed shot off the post and into the net. Felipe Souza tallied the third Vulcans goal of the half in the 25th minute.
West Chester took flight in the second half, taking control in time of possession and shots. Zach Weaver broke through for the Golden Rams in the 60th minute, beating Cal goalkeeper Charlie Dagnal on a free kick from just outside the penalty box. Ricky Williamson brought West Chester within a goal in the 89th minute as he beat the Vulcans defense and found the twine.
West Chester’s torrid comeback came up short, however, as Cal’s defense clamped down in the final 10 minutes.
Weiss recorded three saves in the loss. Kevin Marron replaced Weiss in the second half and made two stops. Derek Yobbi stopped two shots in net for the Vulcans.
