Shippensburg, Pa. – Brittany Counts and Luisi Souto propelled the Golden Rams to a 9-0 sweep on the road against Shippensburg University in Women’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (8-2) has now won two straight after falling to Goldey-Beacom last week. Shippensburg (1-6) has dropped four straight.
Counts and Souto set the stage immediately, dropping Shippensburg’s Jackie Kramer and Jess Lodek, 8-1, in doubles action. Ali Fetter and Kara Shumock followed suite, winning their doubles match over Hannah Lolley and Monica Berardi, 8-5. Allie Melhem and Jess Trahey also won their doubles matchup over Ali Horvath and Cassie Sidone, 8-4.
West Chester’s success in doubles action propelled them to more of the same in singles action. Counts knocked off Kramer in top singles action, 6-3, 6-0. Not to be outdone, Souto swept her singles match against Horvath, 6-0, 6-0.
Fetter and Shumock won their singles matches by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively.
Claire Afrassiabian was victorious in fourth singles action, winning 6-0, 6-1. Teresa Grasso won her singles match 6-1, 6-1.
