LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Ralph Hegamin posted 23 points and Lincoln University missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer as West Chester University held on for a thrilling, 69-68, victory before a raucus crowd at Manuel Rivero Hall in a non-league men’s basketball tilt Thursday night.
Hegamin, who put up 21 points in West Chester’s season opener against USP on Tuesday, bettered that effort by two against Lincoln and the Golden Rams (2-0) needed every one of those points to remain undefeated in the early season.
Lincoln had an open look at a potential game-winning trey, but could not knock down the shot that would have delivered a win for the Lions (0-1) in their home opener. Lincoln ended the game on a 15-7 run to draw within a point in the final 22 seconds.
Clinging to a 69-65 advantage, West Chester was held scoreless over the last 3:34 as Lincoln had its opportunities to draw even or take the lead. However, the Lions could never get over the top.
Hegamin recorded his second double-double in as many games and 18th of his career at West Chester over the past three seasons. He grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds.
Elie Daniels had 15 points and seven rebounds while Kehinde Roberts posted 14 points and seven boards.
West Chester is at Wilmington on Saturday.
