Defensive Effort Leads West Chester Women Over Lock Haven, 72-49

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Allison Hostetter and Megan Stewart each scored 11 points, and West Chester held Lock Haven to just 25 percent shooting, as the Golden Rams cruised to a 72-49 victory over the Bald Eagles in the first day of the Millersville Tip-Off Tournament inside Pucillo Gym Friday night.

West Chester (2-0) shot 47 percent from the field and grabbed 44 rebounds in the win. Lock Haven (1-1) went 14-for-56 from the floor and made just one field goal over a 13-minute stretch in the second half that allowed the Rams to pull away. The Eagles mustered just five field goals in all during the entire second half.

West Chester went on a 30-11 run from the 17:47 mark of the second half to the 4-minute mark to open up a 23-point lead (65-42). Lock Haven had pulled to within eight at the half (35-27). But, the Rams’ defense wore down the Eagles over the final 20 minutes of play.

Stewart contributed six rebounds, six assists and six steals to go along with her 11 points. Hostetter had four assists as well. Renata Neal scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds, falling one point shy of a double-double. She also blocked four shots.

Dominique Adams, Janelle Garber and Mary Kate Serratelli each added eight points apiece for West Chester as well.

Marisa Elliot led all scorers in the contest with 12 points for Lock Haven.

West Chester returns to Pucillo Gym on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip-off with University of the District of Columbia on the second day of the Millersville Tip-Off Tournament.
