WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Joe Wright was 23 of 30 for 328 yards and two touchdowns as West Chester University closed its 2009 season with a 45-13 win over visiting Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon at John A. Farrell Stadium.
The Golden Rams (7-4) scored 24 points in the second quarter to take a comfortable 31-7 lead at halftime. Both Dan DePalma (110) and Steve Miller (107) caught for over 100 yards in the win. Miller hauled in two TD receptions from Wright while DePalma gathered in a 46-yard TD strike from backup QB Jared Jorgensen in the fourth quarter.
Mercyhurst (4-7) mustered just 198 yards of total offense and was 1-for-16 on third-down conversions. The Lakers’ pair of quarterbacks went 14-for-46 for 148 yards and threw two interceptions.
DePalma and senior TE Ryan Paulson each caught for 100 yards a week ago against Bloomsburg. Wright threw for more than 300 yards for the third time in the last four weeks, finally showing the form that had him hyped for the Harlon Hill Trophy at the beginning of the year. He finished his senior season with 2,759 yards passing and 20 touchdowns.
DePalma caught for a team-high 832 yards and tied Miller for the team lead with nine touchdown receptions.
