KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Megan Stewart scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but it was not enough for visiting West Chester to overcome host Kutztown, 63-60, Wednesday night in a PSAC East women’s basketball game at Keystone Hall.
West Chester (16-8, 8-3) falls into a first-place tie with Millersville, who defeated Cheyney Wednesday night, in the Eastern Division. However, the Golden Rams, who have now lost two straight, hold the tie-breaker over the Marauders by virtue of their two wins head-to-head. Kutztown (17-7, 7-4) is one game back of the two after sweeping the season series against West Chester.
Dana Weems missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime. She finished with just seven points and three rebounds. Allison Hostetter scored 12 points, and Janelle Garber 11 points and eight rebounds.
Rachel Wisemiller led Kutztown with 19 points. She was the only Golden Bear in double figures.
A 24-8 run midway through the first half turned a one-point advantage into a 17-point cushion for Kutztown, and the Bears never looked back. West Chester cut the deficit to 11 by halftime.
West Chester returns home Saturday for another PSAC East showdown with Mansfield. It begins a three-game homestand to close out the season. Saturday will be Pink Zone at Hollinger Field House to benefit the fight against breast cancer. Tip-off for the women’s game will be 1 p.m.
