Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Matt Cotellese was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Nick Spisak hit a two-run triple to lead host West Chester to a 10-1 non-league baseball victory over visiting University of the Sciences College (Phila.) on a sunny, but cold, Thursday afternoon.
West Chester (8-7) scored four runs in the fourth to open up a 2-0 game and added three more in the seventh to salt away the contest. The Golden Rams also plated single runs in the first, third and eighth while USP (1-10) could only muster a solo home run from Pete LaRocco in the top of the fifth.
Joe Opalka (1-0) picked up the win, making his first start and lasting five innings. He scattered three hits and allowed the home run to LaRocco while striking out one and walking two. Brian Muldowney came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one and allowing four hits. Jordan Lehman pitched two hitless innings the rest of the way, striking out two.
Adam Kissinger (0-3) suffered the loss on the mound for USP in his third start of the year. He allowed six runs on nine hits, walked two and did not strikeout anybody. Greg Nealis came on in relief and pitched three innings, allowing just one run on one hit and struck out a batter.
Charlie Kelly and Brandon Wolfe started off the Golden Rams’ fourth inning with back-to-back singles past USP’s third baseman. Then Sam Phillips moved the runners up on a ground out. Kevin McGrath followed with an RBI single, before Spisak laced a shot off the right-center field fence scoring both Wolfe and McGrath. That bomb chased Kissinger, and Cotellese grounded out against Nealis that scored Spisak.
In the Rams’ three-run seventh, Kyle Orensky hit a two-run single and Kelly had an RBI single.
West Chester opens its PSAC East schedule Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at home against Millersville. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
