WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Visiting University of the Sciences (USP) men’s tennis squad captured the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches to come from behind and defeat host West Chester, 5-4, in a non-league match Wednesday afternoon.
Alan Day picked up his first college win with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 victory at No. 3 singles. Day battled back after dropping the opening set to take the second stanza and then win the match tie-breaker, 10-5. John Howanski and his opponent, Billy Fine, split their first two sets at No. 2 singles, but decided to play a full third set as opposed to the match tie-breaker. Fine pulled out the win, 6-3, which swung the match in USP’s favor.
