Women's Tennis Shuts Out Chestnut Hill, 9-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
- West Chester University's women's tennis squad continued its dominating style of play with a 9-0 sweep of host Chestnut Hill in a non-league match Friday afternoon.

West Chester (4-5) won all six singles matches in straight sets and only allowed five points in three doubles competitions en route to the win. It marked the second straight 9-0 shutout of an opponent for the Golden Rams, who showed no ill effects from its nine-day layoff.

Maria Kostaris won at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-1. No other Golden Ram allowed more than one point to their counterpart in the singles competition. Claire Afrassiabian was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2, Kara Shumock a 6-0, 6-1 winner at third singles, Bridget Dougherty a 6-0, 6-1 winner at fourth singles, Ali Melham a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 5 and Jessica Trahey a 6-1, 6-1 winner at sixth singles. 

Kostaris and Shumock teamed up at first doubles for an 8-4 win while Afrassiabian and Dougherty were 8-1 winners at second doubles. Melham and Trahey were 8-0 victors at No. 3 doubles.
