WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's women's tennis team completely dominated cross-town rival Cheyney on a balmy Friday afternoon, yielding just one set point combined in all nine matches en route to a 9-0 win.
West Chester (7-10, 2-5 PSAC) swept all six singles contests by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. Kara Shumock, playing at No. 1 singles for the first time in her college career, topped Imani Johnson. Bridget Dougherty moved up from her usual spot at No. 4 to take the No. 2 singles match. Teresa Grasso played at No. 3, instead of her usual No. 5, and Jessica Trahey was at No. 4 rather than her comfortable spot at No. 6. Allie Melhem and Chantelle Chaudoin rounded out the singles lineup.
Claire Afrassiabian and Dougherty teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles while Shumock and Trahey at No. 3 doubles was an 8-0 winner as well. Melhem and Grasso topped their counterparts, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles, giving up the only set point in the match.
