West Chester Women Shut Out Shippensburg In Finale, 9-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- West Chester University's women's tennis team shut out PSAC rival Shippensburg, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both schools. 

West Chester (9-10) only dropped one set in the six singles matches and swept the doubles with No. 3 doubles going to a tie-breaker. The Golden Rams ended the year winning its last three matches and five of its last seven overall.

No. 1 singles Maria Kostaris dropped her opening set, 6-2, but rallied for a 6-3, 10-4 win in the next two that salvaged the match for her. She put an end to a personal three-game losing streak. She finishes the year 6-11 overall, playing at No. 1 singles in each match. 

Shippensburg (2-14) saw its No. 3 doubles tandem take West Chester's Allie Melhem and Teresa Grasso to the limit, but the Golden Rams prevailed 8-7 (7-5). Grasso was a straight-set, 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles as well. 

Kara Shumock was a 6-1, 6-0, easy winner at No. 3 singles, and Claire Afrassiabian was a breeze at 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
