No. 14 West Chester Quiets Wilmington, 19-3

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Matt Cotellese went 6-for-6 with three RBI and four runs scored, and Blair Dameron was 2-for-4 with a pair of three-run homers and four runs scored as 14th-ranked West Chester University crushed visiting Wilmington, 19-3, in a non-league baseball contest Thursday at Serpico Stadium on a comfortable spring afternoon.

West Chester (28-9) banged around nine Wilmington pitchers for 17 hits while taking advantage of four Wildcats’ errors. Wilmington (15-15) scored all three of its runs in the third inning, but could not solve Golden Rams’ reliever Brian Lawlor.

Lawlor (2-0) came on for starter Steve Richter with one out in the third and took the Rams the rest of the way home, yielding three hits and two walks in 6.2 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out one.

Dameron hit his first three-run shot during a seven-run third that put West Chester on top 13-0. His second three-run homer in the game, eighth overall on the season, put the finishing touches on a 19-3 score in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Kyle Orensky hit his team-leading ninth home run of the year right after Dameron left the yard in the third. The Golden Rams sent 12 batters to the plate during that fateful inning.

Charlie Kelly hit a three-run homer that highlighted a five-run first. West Chester has hit 10 home runs in its last 16 innings, including the six round-trippers in yesterday’s 17-0 drubbing of Lincoln that was called after seven. The Rams have hammered out 31 hits in their last two games and are hitting .418 as a team over that stretch. A whopping 17 of those 31 base hits have gone for extra bases.

Eleven Golden Rams recorded hits in the win. Nick Spisak scored three runs. West Chester scored 14 of its 19 runs in the first three frames, jumping out to a 14-3 lead.
